Now that we’ve had some time to digest the results from the first round of the 2019 NFL draft, it’s become pretty clear some teams performed better than others. And while it’s unfair to pass final judgment on any player or particular draft class, after months of studying these prospects and team needs, an initial reaction is at least warranted.

The Cardinals began the day with the biggest headliner, QB Kyler Murray. The fate of the franchise now rests on his shoulders, and despite the presence of Josh Rosen on the roster, Arizona made the right call.

Here are some of the first round’s winners — and losers — entering Day 2.

Winner: Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals ended the first round with what every rebuilding franchise needs: A quarterback.

Some will say they already had one in last year’s first-round pick Josh Rosen, but they clearly didn’t think so. And whether it was Arizona or another quarterback-needy team, the best pick in this class at the position was Kyler Murray. In fact, he’s the only player in this year’s draft that has the rare skill set capable of carrying his team to a Super Bowl one day.

That’s what the draft is meant to be used for. Forget about everything else; the Cardinals hit a home run.
