Loser: Houston Texans

Draft media was in agreement that the Texans would select an offensive lineman, whether it be a tackle or interior prospect, in the first round. What wasn’t expected, however, is that they’d pass on several quality prospects for a small-school standout with upside.

Alabama State’s Tytus Howard is a good-looking prospect who, in time, could become a quality starting tackle in the NFL. But he’s making a big jump in level of competition, and sometimes, that doesn’t always go well.

The Texans can’t afford to wait for a player who needs time to develop into a starter. They could’ve selected Jawaan Taylor, Cody Ford or Dalton Risner at the same pick and would’ve began training camp with an unquestioned first-teamer.

This was one of the first round’s riskiest picks.
