Chase Young, Grant Delpit battle for top defensive prospect

The NFL will always be about the passing game, so naturally, the top defensive prospects usually come in the form of pass rushers and defensive backs. That’s the case in McShay’s mock draft with Ohio State’s Chase Young and LSU’s Grant Delpit as the top two defensive players off the board.

McShay has Delpit as the No. 3 pick and Young as No. 4.

We touched on Chase Young’s upside here, and if he takes the kind of developmental step that’s expected of him in 2019, he should end up the most coveted defender in the class. But he has to take that step.

Delpit, on the other hand, is ready for the NFL right now. He’s a Swiss army knife in the secondary and, barring injury, will be a top-five pick.
