Which 1st-round pick has the best chance to win Defensive Rookie of the Year?
By Bryan Perez
Brian Burns | Edge | Panthers
Burns slid a little lower than many draft analysts expected when he went 16th overall to the Carolina Panthers, but he landed in a great situation that presents him an opportunity to make a huge impact as a big-time pass rusher in 2019.
Burns will make his living getting after the quarterback, and he should be an instant starter on a Panthers defense that’s craving the kind of speed and quicks off the edge that makes him such a potentially special player.
Carolina is an odd team. They can as easily win 11 games and make a deep run in the playoffs as they can be a five-win team and pick in the top seven in 2020. Assuming Cam Newton is healthy and the Panthers win 10 or more games, Burns will be a featured reason why down the stretch when the voters really start finalizing their choices for the end-of-year awards.
