Green Bay Packers

The Packers entered the 2019 NFL Draft with two first-round picks (No.s 12 and 30) and the general thought was they’d add at least one new weapon for QB Aaron Rodgers this season. The logical spot to make that pick was with their first selection, where tight end Noah Fant was still on the board when Green Bay opted for Michigan’s Rashan Gary.

Gary is a good prospect. In fact, he has some potentially elite qualities that made him the most sought after high school recruit in the country. But his underwhelming play as a Wolverine combined with the odd fit in the Packers defense creates questions about the logic behind the selection.

Had Green Bay went with Fant, they would have provided Rodgers with the most dynamic receiving tight end he’s ever had the luxury of playing with. And while tight ends don’t normally carry enough value to select that high, the Packers would’ve been an exception. Rodgers is entering the final quarter of his career and he needs a player like Fant to maximize the juice he has left in his arm.

Green Bay could’ve done better at No. 12, and Fant would’ve been the right choice.
