2019 NFL Draft Do-Overs: NFC West
By Bryan Perez
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams offense simply wasn’t the same when Todd Gurley’s knee limited his availability down the stretch last season, and their selection of Darrell Henderson in the third round was an attempt by the front office to minimize the damage if Gurley is slowed again in 2019. And even though Henderson projects as a starting-quality running back, the pick could’ve been better.
First, the Rams already have a very capable — if not criminally underrated — running back behind Gurley in Malcolm Brown. He, too, was injured late last season and missed a golden opportunity to prove to the team and the rest of the league that he can be a potential top-10 starter. He’s all the insurance Los Angeles needs at the position; his shoulder injury was a fluke last season and there’s no reason to question his durability moving forward.
The Rams could’ve provided Jared Goff with a seam-busting tight end like Jace Sternberger, who the Packers wisely scooped up five picks later. Adding another pass-catcher like Sternberger would’ve taken some pressure off the running game and given Goff a security blanket in the passing game.
Henderson is going to flash and he’ll be a popular pick in fantasy football. But the Rams should’ve given Goff more weapons as he continues to evolve into one of the game’s top quarterbacks.
