Golden Tate says Daniel Jones has ‘super, super strong arm’
By Bryan Perez
Rookie QB Daniel Jones continues to receive praise from his New York Giants teammates at the club’s offseason team activities.
The New York Giants were the NFL’s punchline after selecting QB Daniel Jones with the sixth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, but the early returns from offseason team activities are spinning a different narrative.
First, it was Eli Manning who was impressed by Jones’ approach to his craft. Now, it’s Golden Tate, who praised Jones’ arm strength Thursday.
“He’s doing a good job,” Tate said of Jones. “If you just look at talent-wise, the guy has a super, super strong arm. He can move around a little bit. But with quarterbacks you just never know because it’s such a mental game.”

Tate has a long history of production in the NFL and has played with strong-armed passers like Matthew Stafford and Russell Wilson, so it’s not like he doesn’t have a baseline to compare Jones’ arm talent to.
And if Jones has an arm that’s strong enough to impress Tate, especially after playing with Stafford and Wilson, Giants fans better start getting excited.
Tate described Jones’ situation in New York perfectly.
“The good news with Dan’s situation is he is sitting right behind a Hall of Fame-type quarterback, so he is going to have an opportunity to learn some incredible tools that can help him in the future. I hope it’s kind of like that Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers situation eventually.”
While I wouldn’t expect Jones to end up enjoying a level of success like Rodgers, the comparison makes sense. Manning is in the final lap of his career and there’s a good chance he could be entering his final season as the Giants’ starting quarterback. And while GM Dave Gettleman was mocked for picking Jones as high as he did, if the former Duke Bluedevil pans out and is a quality NFL starter, no one will care when he was drafted.
