First, it was Daniel Jeremiah, now it’s Todd McShay who’s in the mix for a front-office job with the New York Jets.

The New York Jets hired former Philadelphia Eagles vice president of player personnel, Joe Douglas, to be their new general manager Friday in a move that has been met with near universal praise.

Douglas has long been considered one of the top general manager candidates in the NFL after playing such a significant role in the success the Eagles have enjoyed in recent seasons, including a Super Bowl championship in 2017.

Now that Douglas is in the fold, his first order of business will be to hire a front-office staff of talent evaluators he can trust to build the Jets into that same kind of Super Bowl champion.

One name he’s apparently considering for a front-office role is ESPN NFL Draft Analyst, Todd McShay.

McShay confirmed he’s in the mix.

“Joe is considering multiple options and I’m one of the options,” McShay told ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

McShay and Douglas have a connection dating back to their time as teammates at the University of Richmond.

More from New York Jets

This has been quite the hiring process for the Jets, who were once rumored to be interested in another draft analyst — NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah — for the general manager position. Jeremiah has since said that he was never contacted by New York.

McShay wouldn’t be the first high-profile draft analyst to enter the NFL’s real world. Mike Mayock, formerly of NFL Network, was named the Oakland Raiders general manager this offseason and completed what many would argue was a pretty successful first draft in 2019.

And while McShay isn’t expected to have a role nearly as significant, his hiring would bring more validation to the draft industry; especially if he and Mayock do a good job.
