2019 NFL Draft: 5 Potential surprise rookie starters
Devin Singletary – Bills
Singletary’s path to starting for the Bills as a rookie would appear a tricky one. LeSean McCoy is the incumbent starter in a running back room also featuring Frank Gore and T.J. Yeldon.
But McCoy will be 31 when the season starts, is coming off a year in which he averaged just 3.2 yards per carry and comes with more than his fair share of off-field baggage.
That is a recipe for a preseason trade and, were McCoy to be dealt, Singletary – whose blend of elusiveness and contact balance has seen him draw comparisons to both McCoy and Gore – would be the frontrunner to take over and start.
The 36-year-old Gore’s days of being a starter are gone while Yeldon had limited success in his days as the lead back in Jacksonville. Singletary will likely be a part of the long-term core around Josh Allen and, if McCoy departs, it will be primarily his show in the Buffalo backfield.
