David Montgomery, Running Back, Chicago Bears

Round 3 Pick 9 (Pick 73 Overall)

This pick may not be as much of a surprise anymore. I’m pretty sure everyone is expecting David Montgomery to have a big impact for the Bears this season. And for good reason. The Bears were looking for a better back to complement the skills of Tarik Cohen after trading away Jordan Howard to the Eagles. They couldn’t have dreamt of a much better one the Montgomery.

David Montgomery has a similar size and build as Jordan Howard, but is much more elusive and a bigger threat as a receiver out of the backfield. In fact, Montgomery forced 102 missed tackles last season per Pro Football Focus. While he isn’t as shifty as someone like Cohen, he is able to accomplish this with good footwork and a strong lower body.

I fully expect Montgomery to have a big role very early in the season and put up some big numbers as a rookie.
