Rookie second-round pick Mecole Hardman put his jets on display at the Kansas City Chiefs minicamp.

The Kansas City Chiefs face an uncertain future on offense with all-world wide receiver Tyreek Hill‘s off-field issues. Hill’s problems have been well documented and have involved allegations of child abuse (emphasis on allegations) as well as an audio recording of what appears to be his voice threatening his fiance, Crystal Espinal.

Whether or not Hill is charged with a crime won’t be the end of this situation. He’s still subject to the NFL’s personal conduct policy and there’s a chance he will be suspended even if no criminal charges are filed

This uncertainty played a big part in the Chiefs selecting Georgia speedster Mecole Hardman in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. He profiles as a speed receiver much like Hill; he ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the 2019 NFL combine and will be tasked with replacing Hill’s speed in the lineup.

He flashed some of that impressive juice at Kansas City’s minicamp recently, hauling in a long pass from Patrick Mahomes:

Hardman was a productive player at Georgia despite sharing targets with several talented options in the Bulldogs’ offense. He had 532 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018 and was a second-team All-SEC punt returner.

He’s a big play waiting to happen, and in a Chiefs offense that routinely produces big plays with the game’s best big-play passer in Mahomes, Hardman looks like a perfect match.

If Hill avoids a lengthy suspension in 2019, the speed of Kansas City’s receiving corps will be unmatched throughout the league. Remember: they have Sammie Watkins, too. And in case you’ve forgotten, Watkins once ran a 4.43 40-yard dash at 211 pounds.

As crazy as this may seem, the Chiefs offense might be even more fun to watch this fall.
