Te’von Coney, Linebacker, Oakland Raiders

Coney is a throwback linebacker. He’s a big, strong, stout run stopper, but struggles mightily in coverage. If this was 10 years ago he would have been one of the first linebackers off the board. That just goes to show how much the game has changed in a relatively short amount of time.

Coney is still a very solid middle linebacker regardless if how the NFL’s evolved. He’s more than talented enough to carve out a role on early downs in a base defense, especially on a team like Oakland who hasn’t had a legitimate middle linebacker in some time.

The Raiders did add some veterans to upgrade the position so Coney will have to work a little harder to make the roster. Even if he begins his career on the practice squad, it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets on the field in some capacity once an opportunity breaks in his favor.
