D’Andre Swift is expected to be in the conversation as one of the top backs in the 2020 class and will head into the season on the back of high praise.

Only one running back went in the first round in the 2019 NFL Draft but, as the debate over the value of the position rumbles on, D’Andre Swift will look to make sure there is at least one selected in the opening round in 2020 with a strong junior season.

Going into what is likely to be his final season with the Bulldogs, the Georgia back has drawn high praise from NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, who described as Swift as having “outstanding vision”.

Few traits are more important in running backs than the ability to spot creases and holes to slip through and Swift combines this with the elusiveness to make defenders miss consistently while living up to his name by showcasing great speed in the open field.

Swift will be under considerable pressure to make use of his attributes to perform to the best of his ability in 2020, as he will be tasked with leading a Georgia a backfield that again has great depth but may be without Zamir White, who suffered the second ACL tear of his career last preseason.

Jeremiah Holloman’s dismissal from the team following an assault allegation further weakens Georgia’s pass-catching options – which were already seen as the weakness of the offense going into 2019 – and places an even bigger burden on Swift to deliver and help take the pressure off quarterback Jake Fromm.

If Swift succeeds despite the apparent lack of talent around him on offense, then there will be more than just Jeremiah singing his praises. He had 1,346 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns in 2018 when Elijah Holyfield was still in the mix. The expectation is he will improve on those numbers as the workhorse back and, provided he does so, there is every chance of him following in Joshua Jacobs’ footsteps and being taken in the opening round.
