Stud: Melvin Gordon, RB (No. 15 overall, Chargers)

If you really don’t think running backs matter, maybe the 2015 NFL draft will change your opinion. Two of the first round’s best picks were running backs, with Melvin Gordon joining Todd Gurley as a stud.

Gordon versus Gurley was a fun pre-draft debate that season with some preferring Gordon’s long-term upside (me included). And while Gurley’s been the more productive pro so far, Gordon has emerged as one of the NFL’s top starters.

Gordon, like Gurley, has been a touchdown machine the last two seasons with 26 (rushing and receiving). He averaged the most yards per carry of his career in 2018 (5.1) and it feels like the arrow is still pointing up for him.
