Jake Fromm could defy expectations and stay at Georgia for his senior year, according to Albert Breer, but would that be a wise decision?

Jake Fromm is expected to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft after his junior year, but it has been suggested he could spring a surprise and remain with the Georgia Bulldogs for one more season.

Albert Breer of the MMQB wrote in his look at the potential class of 2020 quarterbacks that, such is Fromm’s love for Georgia, he could replicate what Oregon’s Justin Herbert did this year and choose not to declare for the draft and instead opt to play a final year of college football.

Would Fromm be correct to do so? Motivation could come from a desire to be selected higher than he will likely go in 2020, with Herbert and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa seen as the clear top two i n this upcoming class.

In 2021, Fromm would have a great chance of being the second quarterback off the board behind Clemson’s phenom Trevor Lawrence. To secure that status he may have to outperform Ohio State’s Justin Fields, but should have significant confidence in his ability to do so after keeping Fields on the Bulldogs bench and forcing the former No. 1 recruit to transfer.

Fromm’s desire to stay with Georgia beyond this upcoming season may increase should they again fail to win the National Championship. The Bulldogs have had their hearts broken by Alabama in successive years and Fromm could want a final crack at the whip if they fall short again in 2019.

The counter is that another year in college would be one where Fromm would be taking physical punishment and risking injury for no financial compensation. The case can be made that Fromm could hurt his draft stock more than he could help it by staying in school in 2020.

This year’s draft and the rises of Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones encapsulated just how quickly and easily quarterbacks can get pushed up the board. Even as the No. 3 quarterback in the 2020 class, Fromm would be set to go in top 10 and, regardless of what sentiment he has for Georgia, it would be an ill-advised move to risk injury and losing that status by sticking around for another year with the Bulldogs.
