1. Bill Belichick, New England Patriots

Bill Belichick is the only Head Coach in the NFL who also wears the General Manager label. When you look at his resume, however, it is obvious he deserves to be ranked No. 1 on this list. Since being hired in New England he has been to the playoffs 16 times, made nine Super Bowl appearances, with six Super Bowl victories on his resume.

Belichick is another GM that uses all avenues of roster building well. His roster of draft picks is as impressive as they get: Tom Brady, Richard Seymour, Matt Light, Vince Wilfork, Julian Edelman, Nate Solder, Chandler Jones, Dont’a Hightower, and James White.

More recently, he drafted key contributors Joe Thuney, Vince Valentine, Elandon Roberts, Isaiah Wynn, Sony Michel, and Duke Dawson. His 2019 draft class include some possible early contributors as well in N’Keal Harry, Joejuan Williams, Chase Winovich, and Damien Harris.

Belichick has also been active in adding players through free agency. In recent offseasons, he has added Jabaal Sheard, Chris Long, Chris Hogan, Rex Burkhead, Stephon Gilmore, Jared Veldheer, Ben Watson, Demaryius Thomas, and Terrance Brooks.

Where Belichick has been more active than most General Managers is in the trade market. Since 2013, Belichick has traded for the likes of LeGarrette Blount, Kyle Van Noy, Eric Rowe, Martellus Bennett, Brandin Cooks, Josh Gordon, Trent Brown, Cordarrelle Patterson, Jason McCourty, and Danny Shelton.

As long as the Patriots have Brady under center and Belichick running the program, they’ll be in annual contenders for the Super Bowl.
