Training camp is a wonderful time for NFL fans, as it marks the end of a long offseason and the  return of football to the regular news cycle.

Throughout the coming weeks supporters will be scouring social media and closely following the reports of beat writers for indications as to what kind of shape their team is in going into 2019.

It is also the first point at which a team’s draft selections are able to be evaluated with the pads on, possibly providing early indications as to which rookies could become instant impact players.

5. Darrell Henderson’s progress

With Todd Gurley confirmed as having an “arthritic component” in his knee this offseason, the Rams will be unable to rely on him to the level they have done in recent years and made provisions by selecting Darrell Henderson in the third round of the draft.

Henderson, who rushed for 1,909 yards and 22 touchdowns while catching 19 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns in his final season at Memphis, has the skill set to be a true difference maker as an all-purpose back.

But how much of Gurley’s workload Henderson takes will hinge on how the former Georgia star responds to the rigors of camp after being held out of offseason practices to this point, as well as Henderson’s ability to stand out in a crowded running back room.

Malcolm Brown, Justin Davis and John Kelly will all be competing with him and, while Henderson’s draft status should secure him a roster spot, he will need to prove he is a cut above that trio if he is to become the Gurley handcuff he was selected to be.
