3. NFC East quarterback battles

One NFC East team reached for a quarterback, the other saw arguably the best passer in the class fall into their laps. Now attention turns to whether either of Daniel Jones or Dwyane Haskins can earn the starting role as a rookie.

There have been reports Jones is not in a real competition with Eli Manning for the Giants’ starting job, with most believing New York will stick with a rapidly declining franchise legend for the time being. Yet if Jones belies his ‘reach’ tag and puts on a show early in camp it will not take long for buzz to grow around Manning’s heir apparent.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden has not committed to a starter with Haskins in the running along with Case Keenum and Colt McCoy. Haskins endured a spotty spell of offseason practices and the veteran presences of Keenum and McCoy may initially be seen as safer bets.

But, as the swathes of empty seats at FedEx Field last year indicated, this is a franchise in need of a spark. They were gifted a player with the talent to be just that in the draft and it may only take a few practices or a promising preseason game to convince the Redskins to give him the reins straight away.
