A few NFL Training Camps have already opened with all teams starting camp by the end of the week. Each team will be tasked with finding their best 53 players over the next few weeks in an effort to finalize their rosters for the regular season. In this series, we will try to predict which players will make each roster. Next up, the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons had a bit of a disappointing season last year finishing 7-9 and missing the playoffs. A big part of that was injuries to key players. Especially on defense. Devonta Freeman, Deion Jones, Desmond Trufant, and Keanu Neal all missed time with various injuries.

That being said, the Falcons haven’t felt like the same team since losing the Super Bowl two years ago. On paper, the Falcons look better, more talented, and deeper than last season. I expect the Falcons to bounce back and get back to the playoffs this season. Here is the roster I expect Atlanta to break camp with in August.

Quarterbacks

  • Matt Ryan
  • Matt Schaub

Matt Ryan is still one of the better quarterbacks in the league. He has had a couple down years since Kyle Shanahan left, but I expect new Offensive Coordinator Dirk Koetter will help get him back to the MVP-level he was playing at just a few years ago. Schaub is one of the older backups in the league. Therefore, look for Kurt Benkert to spend another year on the practice squad as the backup of the future.
