Josh Rosen has had quite the rollercoaster ride to begin his NFL career, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting any easier with the Miami Dolphins.

Former first-round pick and current Miami Dolphins quarterback Josh Rosen has had one of the most bizarre starts to an NFL career. After being selected 10th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2018 NFL draft, Rosen was discarded like yesterday’s trash in a draft-day trade with the Dolphins.

The Cardinals, after just one season with Rosen under center, felt it was time to move on. They chose Kyler Murray with the first overall pick last April and immediately anointed him the savior of the franchise.

It could be worse for Rosen. He could’ve been sent to a team with an established veteran starter and be buried on a depth chart. Instead, landing with the Dolphins looked like a golden opportunity for a player who was once considered a franchise quarterback prospect. Only journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick stood in his way.

After the first few days of training camp, it doesn’t appear like Fitzpatrick will tap out easily. He’s leading the quarterback competition, and according to reports, it isn’t very close.

Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Fitzpatrick has been more productive in practices and that his leadership is a plus, too. In case you’ve forgotten, Rosen wasn’t exactly the poster child for leadership during his time with the Cardinals. His unique personality was a turnoff for some.

This doesn’t feel all that surprising, to be honest. Fitzpatrick has bounced around the league and is now on his eighth team in 15 years. So, yeah, he’s used to adjusting to new surroundings. It may just take Rosen a little longer to assimilate to life in Miami. He’s a young player who’s been thrown into an extremely difficult circumstance. Patience is required.

The preseason will go a long way in determining whether Rosen opens the season as the Dolphins starter. It would be a pretty big shock if Fitzpatrick wins the job, considering the rebuild going on in Miami.
