Rookie quarterbacks are playing sooner than ever in today’s NFL. With that in mind, when should we expect to see the new signal-callers make their first starts?

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Prediction – Week 1 vs. Detriot Lions

Barring any setbacks in training camp, this one is a no brainer. The No. 1 overall pick plays week one, period. Kyler Murray is set up to be a star in this league and prove that his athleticism and throwing accuracy will overcome his small stature.

Daniel Jones, New York Giants

Prediction – Week 7 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Daniel Jones won’t play week one, to no one’s surprise. The Giants have been Eli Manning’s team for more than a decade and he won’t go down without a fight. That said, there isn’t much fight in the Giants. Without Odell Beckham Jr. to bail Manning out, the Giants will struggle mightily early. After a week six primetime embarrassment against the New England Patriots, the team Manning is famous for beating twice in the Super Bowl, Giants fans may be reluctantly ready to see what their team’s first-round investment is capable of.

Dwayne Haskins, Washington Redskins

Prediction – Week 1 at Philadelphia Eagles

Dwayne Haskins is a much better prospect than his draft position indicated. In many ways, he’s the most pro-ready quarterback of the class and he absolutely should get the nod for week one. Haskins had better hope the Redskins’ offensive line injury issues from a year ago are settled, as he begins the season with a murderer’s row of teams with elite pass rushers – the Eagles, Cowboys and Bears.

Drew Lock, Denver Broncos

Prediction – Week 16 vs. Detroit Lions

This one is tricky. Joe Flacco could very well be the Broncos’ savior, however unlikely that may seem to the general audience. But if he isn’t and the Broncos are out of the playoff race, Drew Lock will get his chance. I expect the Broncos will be looking at a 6-8 record following a bad loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and will turn to Lock for a matchup with the Lions and the season closer vs. the Oakland Raiders

Ryan Finley, Cincinnati Bengals

Prediction – Week 16 at Miami Dolphins

The Bengals week 16 matchup may very well determine who holds the number one overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. If that is truly the case, the Bengals will surely have had their fill of Andy Dalton. Ryan Finley would get his chance to show what he has, but in the same attempt prove why the Bengals will be picking a quarterback at the top of next year’s draft.

Honorable mentions go to Will Grier and Gardner Minshew. Grier is in place for the Panthers should Cam Newton experience any setbacks with his shoulder injury. Minshew is gap insurance should Nick Foles leave his magic in Philly.
