In a new 2020 NFL Mock Draft, Pro Football Focus sends the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals a new franchise quarterback to build around.

Pro Football Focus NFL Draft Analyst Mike Renner published his first 2020 mock draft of the college football season, and he kept with the prevailing theme that two quarterbacks will be the prize picks at the top of the first round.

Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa goes No. 1 overall to the Miami Dolphins while Oregon’s Justin Herbert is the second pick to the Cincinnati Bengals.

There’s an unbelievable amount of confidence in Tagovailoa and Herbert being the first and second quarterbacks — and arguably overall picks — by almost every analyst in the industry. It screams a letdown is coming. Rarely does the college football season or upcoming draft class pan out as predicted and there’s a chance that one of these two passers will see just enough of regression in their draft stock to push them into the second half of the top 10.

Is it likely? No. Is it possible? Absolutely.

More from Mock Drafts

Tagovailoa seems more fail-proof at this point. He throws with pinpoint accuracy, checks all of the off-field boxes teams want in a quarterback, and has an intangible element to his game that’s shared by the top quarterbacks in the NFL.

Herbert is the guy more likely to fall. He’s a toolsy quarterback who also comes with a fantastic off-field profile, but he’s not quite as accurate as Tua and if he has some inconsistent moments on tape this fall, he could drop a few slots.

Not in this mock, however.

The most surprising pick of Renner’s first-round mock draft is at No. 8 overall where he has TCU WR Jalen Reagor coming off the board to the Denver Broncos. I don’t think it’s a bad surprise, either.

Reagor is the most talented receiver no one is talking about right now. The likes of Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb have stolen the pass-catcher spotlight this offseason, but it’s Reagor who may have one of the highest upsides of any player at the position in the class.

The 2020 crop of wide receivers is going to be special. Renner has five coming off the board in the first round of his mock draft.
