QB Feleipe Franks

Franks is bound to garner NFL attention because of his combination of size (6-foot-6, 227 pounds) and intriguing athleticism, and he’s already drawn attention from another major sports league.

He flashes play-making ability with the ball in his hands and can turn a simple boot-leg into a chunk play with his legs.

As intriguing as his physical tools are, he leaves a lot to be desired as a passer. It’s important to remember that he’s just 21-years but, despite two years of starting experience, he’s provided mixed results.

Franks’ accuracy is erratic and he tends to miss too many easy throws. He can hit his target in the short and underneath game but he misses at inopportune times and struggles to make teams pay when they give him opportunities.

Franks possesses limited touch on his deep ball and he really struggles to hit his mark consistently when he pushes it vertical.

Franks doesn’t show much zip but he has enough arm strength to warrant a look at the next level. The tight window throws just haven’t been there and his deep ball tends to flutter.

Franks also has strides to take on the mental processing side but his feel for the game will increase with time. Franks locks onto his first read too often and needs to see the entire field. He’ll miss defenders playing with inside leverage and has a tendency to force it when he doesn’t have to, resulting in turnovers.

There’s plenty of reason to believe he’s going to take a step forward this season, which is what makes the Miami matchup so intriguing.

Franks will be facing a potent defense with one of the best edge rushers in the nation going against a duo of inexperienced tackles, and Miami has play-making in the middle of the field. He’s going to have to make quick decisions with pressure in his face and there’s little margin for error with this defense.

If he’s able to make plays, Franks will likely propel both the Gators and his draft stock in the right direction to lead off the season.
