In this 53-man roster series, we will try to predict which players will make every team’s final squad. Next up, the New York Jets.

The Jets look like they may have finally found their franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold. While it didn’t show up as improvement in the win column last season, you could see improvement when Darnold took over as the starter midseason.

This offseason brought in a new offensive-minded Head Coach in Adam Gase to help develop Darnold. New York was also extremely active in free agency this offseason while giving big contracts to the likes of Le’Veon Bell, CJ Mosley, and Jamison Crowder. The roster is significantly better than last years version, but are probably still a year away from competing for a playoff spot.

Quarterbacks

  • Sam Darnold
  • Trevor Siemian

Sam Darnold has looked more settled and poised so far in the preseason. All signs put to him being the quarterback for the Jets for many years to come. Siemian has struggled as a full-time starter in his career but is still one of the better backups in the league.

Running Backs

  • Le’Veon Bell
  • Ty Montgomery
  • Bilal Powell
  • Elijah McGuire

The Jets made Bell one of the highest-paid running backs this offseason even after he didn’t play at all last year amid a contract dispute. Bell figures to still be one of the best all-around backs in the NFL though. Montgomery is a prototypical third-down back as a former receiver. Powell and McGuire offer different skillsets as depth.
