Sacks – Nick Bosa

Bosa has been rated as a 50-50 shot to play Week 1 in the 49ers’ season opener at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, even if he misses out on that road game, Bosa should be the heavy favorite to lead rookies in sacks.

Brian Burns has had an excellent preseason for the Carolina Panthers, but no other rookie pass rusher will have the benefit of playing on a defensive line as talented as that of the 49ers.

Bosa has received effusive praise in training camp for the way in which he uses his hands when rushing the passer. He is a pass-rushing technician who should benefit greatly from the attention DeForest Buckner, Dee Ford, and Solomon Thomas will inevitably attract.

Though he and his brother have developed a reputation as oft-injured players, Bosa’s ankle sprain was sustained in a freak event that saw a lineman fell on his leg. As long as he avoids any further such incidents, Bosa should be able to rack up gaudy sack numbers.
