Though he will fit in best as a traditional 4-3 end in the NFL, A.J. Epenesa is a fantastic athlete in his own right. Standing 6’6, 280 pounds, Epenesa is a force in every aspect of the game on account of his superior strength and technique.

Coming off a 10.5 sack season, which led the Big 10, Epenesa will see even more opportunities to create havoc for opposing offenses in 2019, much to the delight of scouts everywhere.

Epenesa’s most vital aspect is his strength and long arms. He uses both well in both aspects of the game. In run defense, he uses these assets to bench press linemen away from his body and efficiently shed his blocker to the ball carrier to make the play.

That said, his speed and athleticism aren’t to be overlooked. He has good get off and can get to the quarterback quickly in obvious passing situations. Sometimes, however, an excellent get off can seem to surprise him and cause him to lose control of his body into the offensive tackle. Still, he has fast and strong hands coupled with a smooth set of rush moves that he can take to the NFL.

Whether it’s at the point of attack against his blocker or wrapping up a ball carrier, Epenesa shows a physicality in his game that is a lot of fun to watch. He punishes anyone who dares stand in his way to make a play for his defense. If Epenesa shows consistency and improvement on his already excellent 2018 tape, he’s a lock to go in the top 10.
