2020 NFL Draft: Chase Young tops list of high-potential edge rushers
Terrell Lewis possesses all the tools to be much higher on this list. However, the best ability in sports is availability, and Lewis has been anything but available for the Crimson Tide the past two seasons.
Focusing on his play, however, Lewis is a smart and tenacious player as well as a suitable athlete as a 3-4 outside linebacker. He’s comfortable dropping into coverage and reads plays in front of him quickly. He has good get off at the snap and sets a strong edge in the run game. Lewis is a strong tackler with good closing speed to the football.
As a pass rusher, Lewis has an impressive arsenal of moves with which he uses good technique. His straight-line speed won’t wow anyone, but it’s enough to get by slower offensive tackles. He’s a strong bull rusher as well. On top of that, Lewis has a nasty one-arm bull rush, though it’d be surprising if he can really utilize that effectively in the NFL. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful thing to watch.
2019 is a big year for Lewis. Fully recovered from his elbow and knee injuries, Lewis returns to an Alabama defense that has sorely missed his services. If he turns in a full, healthy season and shows no regression or caution in his play, Lewis is yet another candidate to climb draft boards.
