NFL Draft prospect Chase Young continues dominant start to 2019 season
Chase Young was already considered one of the top prospects for the 2020 NFL Draft. That has only solidified after a dominant start to the 2019 season.
Ohio State defensive end Chase Young entered the 2019 season as arguably the top EDGE prospect and one of the top players overall for the 2020 NFL Draft. He has excellent size at 6’5 and 265 pounds. He combines that size with excellent strength and burst to beat offensive lineman on a consistent basis.
Through three games this season, Young has racked up an impressive 5.0 sacks on 11 total tackles, including two sacks registered against Indiana in Week 3. Those numbers put him among the nation’s sack leaders to start the season. He has been nearly unblockable this season due to his relentlessness at getting after the quarterback.
While the sack numbers get all the attention, and rightfully so, Young has been a solid run defender as well. He uses his leverage to set the edge well while playing with good technique to keep his outside arm free to make tackles on runs towards him.
Iowa defensive end AJ Epenesa is an excellent EDGE prospect as well, but after the first three weeks of the college football season, it is clear that Chase Young has cemented himself as not only the top EDGE rusher in the 2020 NFL Draft but as one of the top overall prospects.
Young and the Ohio St. Buckeyes will look to keep their excellent start to the season rolling when they take on MAC team Miami of Ohio in Week 4.
