2019 Heisman Trophy Watch: Week 5
Last Game vs. Texas Tech: 17-for-24 (70.8%)| 415 yards| 3 TD| 1 INT| 9 rushes| 70 yards| 1 TD
Season Stats: 66-for-85 (77.6%)| 1,295 yards| 12 TD| 1 INT| 47 rushes| 443 yards| 5 TD
At this point in the season, it’s time to start thinking of Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts as 1A and 1B in regards to the Heisman race.
They have both been superb this season and performed head and shoulders above the other contenders for the award so far. Hurts hasn’t slowed down at all since putting together a magnificent game in the season opener. In fact, he has arguably gotten even better if possible.
On Saturday, he tore up the Texas Tech defense to the tune of 306 passing yards and four total touchdowns – IN THE FIRST HALF! He would finish the day with another 400+ yards passing game and the four total touchdowns, bringing his season touchdown total to an impressive 19. But that didn’t satisfy Hurts as he was in the weight room shortly after the end of the game:

That is how you win over your teammates, Heisman voters, and NFL teams. Hurts has been incredible this season under Lincoln Riley and will look to continue his strong play when he leads the Sooners against Kansas this Saturday.
