Who leads the race for the Heisman Trophy after seven weeks of the college football season?

There were a lot of big games that had plenty of conference and playoff implications this past weekend. While it helped clear up the teams that are true National Title contenders, it was also a weekend that cleared up the race for the 2019 Heisman Trophy as well. Here are the current standings for the Heisman Trophy after seven weeks of action:

Honorable Mentions

Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma St.

Last week: BYE

Season Stats: 162 rushes| 1,094 yards| 6.8 ypc| 13 TD| 84 Long| 5 receptions| 22 yards| 0 TD

Chuba Hubbard has been on the Heisman short list throughout the entire season. If he were playing on a National Title contending team, he very well could be on the top of this list. Despite being on a bye last week, Hubbard still leads the nation in rushing yards by over 200 yards and is second in the nation in rushing touchdowns. He has a real possibility of at least getting invited to New York in December if he keeps putting up the crazy numbers he has so far this season. His next test will be the no. 18-ranked Baylor Bears on Saturday.

JK Dobbins, RB, Ohio St.

Last week: BYE

Season Stats: 116 rushes| 826 yards| 7.1 ypc| 6 TD| 67 Long| 7 receptions| 44 yards| 1 TD

Like Hubbard, JK Dobbins was another Heisman Trophy contending running back who enjoyed a bye last week. Even with the off week, Dobbins is still second in the nation in rushing yards. The only thing really holding him back is his scoring production, and he only have seven total touchdowns on the season. You can point to the production of his backfield mate, Justin Fields, as the main reason for his lack of touchdowns. He will look to continue his excellent production when Ohio State retakes the field at Northwestern on Friday.

Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

Last week vs. Colorado: 18-for-32 (56.3%)| 261 yards| 2 TD| 0 INT| 1 rush| -12 yards| 0 TD

Season Stats: 134-for-194 (69.1%)| 1, 602 yards| 17 TD| 1 INT| 20 rushes| 0 yards| 0 TD

After a loss to Auburn in the season-opener, Justin Herbert and the Oregon Ducks have been forgotten as contenders for the Heisman Trophy and playoffs, respectively. All Herbert has done since that loss is be incredibly efficient and led the Ducks to five straight convincing wins. That is evidenced by the fact that he is among the nation’s leaders in quarterback rating for the year. If he can continue to string together solid performances and lead Oregon to victory, Herbert will find himself right back in the thick of the Heisman race. He will have a tough test on Saturday when Oregon travels to take on the no. 25-ranked Washington Huskies.
