Oklahoma’s chances of making the playoffs took a gigantic hit when the Sooners suffered their first loss of the season at Kansas State over the weekend. It was through no fault of Jalen Hurts, however, who still had a great game and almost led the comeback at the end. He accounted for nearly 500 total yards and had four total touchdowns- three of them on the ground. After this weekend, Hurts now leads the country in total touchdowns. His dual-threat abilities are unmatched and have taken the Oklahoma offense to new heights. He has also improved as a passer this season, so much so that he has actually entered the conversation as a possible first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
While they certainly have a much tougher hill to climb to get to the playoffs, the Sooners are far from out of the race entirely. A lot of that will have to do with how they bounce back after a BYE week when they host Iowa State on November 9th. As long as Jalen Hurts continues to put together strong performances through the rest of the season, his Heisman chances and the Sooners’ playoff chances will remain very much alive.
