2019 Heisman Trophy Watch: Week 11
How does the race for the 2019 Heisman Trophy stack up after eleven weeks of college football action?
Week 11 could very well go down as the most pivotal weekend of college football in 2019. We saw a couple of playoff contenders lose in Alabama and Penn State. It is also may go down as the weekend that the 2019 Heisman Trophy was basically won. Check out the standings to see who took control of the race for Heisman Trophy:
Honorable Mentions
JK Dobbins, RB, Ohio State
Last game vs. Maryland: 12 rushes| 90 yards| 7.5 ypc| 2 TD| 20 Long| 1 reception| 8 yards| 0 TD
Season Stats: 166 rushes| 1,200 yards| 7.2 ypc| 11 TD| 68 Long| 14 receptions| 140 yards| 2 TD
While Ohio State thoroughly dominated Maryland to a score of 73-14, there weren’t many standout individual performances due to the starters not having to play very long. That includes JK Dobbins. While he continued his recent uptick in touchdown production by finding the endzone twice, Dobbins also failed to crack the 100-yard rushing mark. That being said, he only received 12 carries on the day. Dobbins still had an impressive day gaining 90 yards on those 12 carries, but he drops a little bit in the standings after the impressive performances by other contenders over the weekend.
Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin
Last game vs. (18) Iowa: 31 rushes| 250 yards| 8.1 ypc| 0 TD| 42 Long| 1 reception| 8 yards| 0 TD
Season Stats: 208 rushes| 1,259 yards| 6.1 ypc| 15 TD| 72 Long| 18 receptions| 151 yards| 4 TD
Jonathan Taylor has been on the fringe of these rankings pretty much all season. Every time Taylor seems to push himself up the standings to make an argument of at least getting invited to New York, he seems to follow it up with a dud. Including his performance two weeks ago against Ohio State. He had a strong performance vs. Iowa over the weekend, however. He was the definition of a workhorse for the Badgers with 31 carries and 250 yards on the day. The only downside was Taylor not being able to find the endzone in the hard-fought win. If he can finish the season strong, Taylor might still have a shot at getting invited to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony in December.
