Chuba Hubbard has easily been the most impressive running back in college football in 2019. He has positioned himself squarely in the lead, by a comfortable margin I might add, for at least the Doak Walker Award. However, it’s time to start taking him more seriously as a legitimate contender for the Heisman Trophy. Against the consistently tough defense of TCU, Hubbard accounted for over 220 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just 20 carries. In fact, Hubbard is the first running back to gain over 200 yards on the ground against a Gary Patterson defense since he has been at TCU for the past 19 years. Ever. Another astounding stat is that this was Hubbard’s fourth 200+ yard game on the season. No other running back in college football has more than two!
Hubbard will have another chance to put up some big numbers this weekend against the porous run defense of the Kansas Jayhawks.
