2020 NFL Draft: EDGE class possesses boom or bust talent
By Seth Steere
5. Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State
(Stats: 28 TKLs, 9.0 TFLs, 5.0 Sacks in 8 games)
Where He Wins – Hand Placement: Unlike Okwara, Gross-Matos has great hand placement. Off the snap, he is quick to get his hands inside, where he can control opposing lineman and with his size and power he can easily control the POA. He has a significant length that allows him to outreach his opponents as well.
Needs To Improve – Bend/Flexibility: Gross-Matos is 6’5″, 265-pounds of sheer muscle and because of it he lacks flexibility. Since he doesn’t pose a threat to take the corner, tackles can focus on stuffing him at the line-of-scrimmage.
It wouldn’t surprise me if all five of these guys eventually made a Pro bowl or two, heck even five or six for some of them. On the other hand, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were middling players struggling to get resigned to a second contract.
They all have traits that could make them elite pass rushers at the next level, but they also have glaring issues that could cause them to struggle at the next level. That being said, each one of them could break out in the back half of the season and put some of these concerns to bed.
