852. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Round 7. S. player. Pick 226. Antoine Winfield Jr.

While he is listed as a seventh rounder, Antoine Winfield Jr. can continue to raise his stock if he continues to play like he did last week against Penn State. The 5-10 and 205 pound safety from Minnesota, the son of former Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield, posted two interceptions and 11 total tackles in the Golden Gophers’ biggest game of the year against the Nittany Lions.

Minnesota remains unbeaten and atop the Big Ten West, and Winfield’s play and leadership on the defensive side of the ball is a major reason why. With seven interceptions, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble this season, Winfield Jr. has been stuffing the stat sheet for the Gophers.

Again both Murray and Randall have struggled with injuries and are in their contract years in Cleveland, and Whitehead is, thankfully, long gone. One safety may not do the trick for the Browns in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Given that the Browns need multiple safeties moving forward, Winfield Jr. seems like a rather high reward, low risk pick with their seventh rounder. Nasirildeen at strong safety, Winfield Jr. at free safety and the Browns have a pairing for the future in the third level of their defensive secondary.
