Mack Wilson and Greedy Williams continue to be the only two rookies from the 2019 draft class who are making a contribution for the Browns.
Last night’s 21-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers was not a kind one for the rookie class for the Cleveland Browns. In a game that was marred by 2017 first overall pick Myles Garrett and 2018 second round pick Mason Rudolph engaging in an on-field brawl, the 2019 draft class for the Browns struggled; well, except for one: it was Mack Wilson who again out-performed the Browns’ highest draft pick Greedy Williams again.
While only two of the Browns’ draft class see significant time in Wilson and Williams, they are both relied upon heavily. While Greedy Williams has shown more willingness to engage in the run game and to tackle in the open field, a knock on him coming out of Louisiana State, the second round cornerback struggled in coverage, surrendering a massive pass interference down the field and allowing receivers to beat him deep.
Mack Wilson did not start the season as the strong-side backer for the Browns, but after the injury to veteran Christian Kirksey, he has taken over that role. It was a bumpy ride early for him, but over the past three weeks, Wilson has really seemed to find his stride for the brown and orange defense.
Showing athleticism to play sideline-to-sideline, Wilson has made plays against the pass in the flats in back-to-back weeks. He finished yesterday’s win over the Steelers with a knocked down pass in yesterday’s game, and a tackle outside at the line of scrimmage.
