The 2020 NFL Draft will be an odd event for the Steelers. As such, finding depth and future role players will be key in having a successful draft.

After Thursday night’s 21-7 drubbing by the Cleveland Browns, the Pittsburgh Steelers now sit at 5-5. That record doesn’t affect the Steelers draft position as much as the Miami Dolphins, who continue to hope for a poor season from the Black and Gold.

While the season will certainly remain a difficult journey for the Steelers as the injuries continue to pile on, the team can at the least take solace in the Week 3 trade for Minkah Fitzpatrick. That trade cost the Steelers a 1st and 5th-round pick while the team also spent a 5th on TE Nick Vannett from Seattle.

The addition of Fitzpatrick boosted the defense into one of the league’s most fearsome squads. However, the offense continues to sputter with Mason Rudolph at quarterback. Time will tell for Pittsburgh is having a Defensive Player of the Year candidate is worth the struggle at quarterback.

What’s done is done though and the Steelers, as of now, hold just five picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Spending those picks effectively will be a challenge as just one comes in the top-100.
