Some final thoughts

Hitting on late picks is difficult. Of the Steelers’ picks after 100 since 2015, only RB James Conner (2017, 105), RB Jaylen Samuels (2018, 165) and Jesse James (2015, 160) showed any real long term value as a contributor away from special teams.

The Steelers will try to play in free agency to fill a few gaps, but spending will be difficult until Ben Roethlisberger is retired and his contract is no longer a problem. With that hurdle challenging the front office, hitting on the 2020 draft class will play a strong role in surviving life after Roethlisberger with Mason Rudolph.

That said, Continuing to build defensively through the draft is of more value to the team considering the youth on the offensive side of the ball. The defense may need to carry the team until Rudolph or another young quarterback is able to lead effectively. Players like Nasirildeen and Coe could go a long way in helping with the few inconsistencies on an otherwise excellent defense.

Meanwhile shoring up the interior offensive line is a must. finding a plug and play starter would be difficult without trading around, but it’s not totally necessary unless Ramon Foster retires unexpectedly after the 2019 season.
