With the 16th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select A.J. Epenesa, EDGE, Iowa.
The Dolphins are back on the clock here with the pick they received from the Pittsburgh Steelers when they dealt Minkah Fitzpatrick earlier this season. After taking Justin Herbert the first time around with the fourth overall pick, the Dolphins take Iowa pass rusher A.J. Epenesa here to address the defensive side of the football.
After starting the season slowly, Epenesa is beginning to pick up the pace for the Hawkeyes and has started to look like the player that many saw in him preseason. The 6-6 and 280 pound pass rusher has tallied four sacks over the past two weeks, and now has seven on the season; additionally, he has recorded seven tackles behind the line of scrimmage as well.
Epenesa has also forced three fumbles this year, and has knocked three passes down at the line of scrimmage with his long arms as well. It has always been said that quarterback, pass rusher, cornerback, and offensive tackle are the highest premium positions in the league; the Dolphins have crossed two of those positions off the list here with Epenesa and Herbert.
