2020 NFL Draft: Tua slips in first round mock draft after injury
By Cory Kinnan
With the fifth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select Tristan Wirfs, offensive tackle, Iowa.
Similar to Washington, the Jets are going to get the future of their franchise killed if they do not invest in some added protection for Sam Darnold along their offensive front. To round out the top five here, the Jets are able to add Iowa standout Tristan Wirfs to fill a void at offensive tackle for the future.
With Thomas off the board to Washington, Wirfs becomes the next best option at the tackle position. Good news for the Jets, after Wirfs there is a decent drop off in talent at the offensive tackle spot in the 2020 draft class, so adding him here gives them a tier one talent to add to their roster.
Kelvin Beachum and Chuma Edoga are replaceable; while Edoga is young and promising, Beachum is an aging veteran that the Jets should draft the heir apparent to. Could Wirfs and Edoga be a long and athletic duo for the future at the tackle spots for the Jets?
Darnold breathes a sigh of relief as the Jets get him a protector to his blindside here in Wirfs.
