2020 NFL Draft: Tua slips in first round mock draft after injury
By Cory Kinnan
With the eighth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Isaiah Simmons, linebacker, Clemson.
Sure, in a perfect world Chase Young would fall into the lap of the Falcons here with the eighth pick in the draft. However in this case, Young is long gone, taken five picks earlier and third overall to the Giants; Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons is, however, a great consolation prize for Atlanta.
One of the more intriguing and athletic prospects in this draft class, Simmons is a hybrid linebacker who can also drop back to the third level of a defense, giving the Falcons elite versatility for the future. With De’Vondre Campbell in his contract year and declining, Simmons would be the perfect replacement for him should he and the Falcons’ front office fail to agree on a price.
Pairing Simmons with Deion Jones, Keanu Neal, Tak McKinley, Grady Jarrett, and Desmond Trufant would give the Falcons a defense full of superstar potential players. As the offense continues to put up massive points per game, it seems obvious for the Falcons to attempt to shore up the defensive side of the ball.
Getting Simmons on the border of the top ten is great value for Atlanta as they may now have the fastest linebacker corp in the league with Jones and Simmons.
