Scouting Report

Entering this season, Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins was not high on many boards (he was fifth on this writer’s board preseason), but as the season has gone along, he has put himself in the conversation as a potential top three back in this class. Currently Dobbins sits as the second running back on this writer’s big board behind only Georgia’s D’Andre Swift for the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft.

Looking more explosive, stronger, and with much better vision after a down year last season, Dobbins is firmly in the Heisman conversation as he has been a workhorse for the Buckeyes this year. After rushing for just over 1,000 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns (yes, this was considered a down year) a year ago, Dobbins has already topped those numbers with almost 1,300 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns.

On the season, Dobbins is averaging seven yards per carry on the ground, and when asked to has been a consistent receiver out of the backfield. The film shows that Dobbins has soft hands, and while he does not have many targets in the passing game, he has tallied 14 catches out of the backfield and scored two additional scores.

He has torched what was the top ranked Michigan State defense at the time, Wisconsin, and Cincinnati. Dobbins and the Buckeyes will close their season with only ranked opponents, giving Dobbins a further test.
