Texas. iOL. Zach Shackelford. 56. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 851

The offensive line never gets as much credit as an offense’s success as they should. Especially for Texas, when their offense is humming it means their offensive line is playing at a high level. And there is no bigger player in that position group than center Zach Shackelford. He is as solid as they come as far as centers in college football.

Shackelford shows the high football IQ to be able to stay at center in the NFL and make protection calls at the line of scrimmage. He has solid mobility to reach the second level and get to blocks but has only adequate power as a people mover in the run game. He is also solid in pass protection with solid lateral movement skills to mirror defenders in pass sets.

The Baylor Bears have a vastly underrated group of defensive linemen who showed last week that can get after the quarterback as well as be a formidable force against the run until they wore down in the second half versus Oklahoma. Shackelford and the offensive line for Texas will be key in neutralizing Bravvion Roy and company while protecting quarterback Sam Ehlinger and opening holes in the run game. The saying of “games are won in the trenches” will be no truer than this weekend when Baylor and Texas face off in a big conference matchup for both schools.
