Pick Analysis. Kellen Mond. player. Scouting Report. Round 7. Pick 213. QB. 873

Jacoby Brissett has at times looked like a franchise quarterback this season after Andrew Luck‘s surprising retirement in August. He hasn’t been the same since he suffered an MCL Sprain versus the Steelers though. The offense struggled mightily in the two games Brissett missed with Brian Hoyer at the controls. The Colts will likely look to upgrade the backup quarterback position with a young developmental player.

Kellen Mond would definitely benefit from returning to Texas A&M for his senior season, but should he declare he will intrigue a team as that young, developmental late-round quarterback. He has excellent athleticism, is a threat with his legs, and has a very strong arm. He needs to get more consistent with his mechanics and accuracy, but he checks all the boxes of a developmental quarterback. At worst, Mond projects as a high-end backup in the NFL.

Summary

In summary, the Colts obviously still have a chance to make the playoffs this season, but the loss on Thursday night definitely hurt their chances. While they started the season strong, some issues have started to creep up in recent games that will need to be addressed in the offseason. This haul would allow them to fill most of the holes with good, young players.

Chaisson would bring even more speed and athleticism to an already explosive defensive end group. Gallimore and Jones would help at defensive tackle with Gallimore immediately being a starter and Jones adding good depth as a run stopper. McKinney would fill the role of free agent Clayton Geathers and create an ultra-versatile and formidable safety group. Surratt would help upgrade the depth and size at receiver while Harris would help take pressure off Marlon Mack in the run game. Pride, Becton, and Mond would be good depth and developmental picks in the later rounds.

If there is one critique about this draft haul, however, it would be not addressing the backup quarterback position sooner. Jacoby Brissett will be a free agent after the 2020 NFL season so finding someone that could possibly replace him after that if needed would be ideal. Either way, this would be a good haul for Chris Ballard and would fill multiple holes that are currently on the roster.
