Chase Lucas, Cornerback, Arizona State

Before the season started, Chase Lucas was getting some hype as a potential top 50 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. As the season rolled along, Lucas has failed to have the ball production you want to see from a guy with top 50 aspirations. Thus far, he only has 2 pass deflections and one interception.

What Lucas does have going for him is that he has always been on the field for the Sun Devils; as a freshman, he didn’t start, but he saw the field and has since became a starter in Arizona. Experience is a huge plus, often times players can be overlooked or undervalued for having just one year of production. With multiple years of tape to watch scouts and GMs will be able to figure out what has led to his lack of production this year as opposed to years prior.

Where he does have the production, however, is against the run. He isn’t the most aggressive tackler, but he is certainly willing, and will either get them to ground or hold on long enough for help to arrive.

The match-up against Oregon will be huge for Lucas and his draft stock. Oregon is primarily a running team but has the weapons to pass as well; Saturday may just be his last chance to prove he’s worth drafting in the top 100.
