Scouting Report

Shaun Wade, while just a redshirt sophomore, has proven to be one of the more versatile defensive backs in the 2020 NFL Draft class. Wade has displayed the ability to play outside the numbers, in the nickel (where he is often featured), and also has film playing in the third level of the Buckeyes’ secondary.

At 6-1 and 200 pounds, shows great ability to tackle in the open field after using his efficient mental dexterity to read and react quickly to what is happening in front of him. For being the youngest in this group of three, Wade may be the most cerebral as he seems to always be around the football.

Coming off the edge as a blitzer, picking passes off in the secondary, filling in run support or on quick screens, Wade’s reaction time is elite. With good footwork and agility, Wade covers a ton of ground in zone coverage, but needs to turn his hips quicker as he tends to lose a step in man coverage.

Wade has the tools to thrive at the next level, and he may rise into the first round by the time we are all said and done. With great mental dexterity, range, and versatility, NFL teams are bound to fall in love with Wade; do not be shocked to hear his name called in the top 32 when the 2020 NFL Draft rolls around.
