812. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB. Ohio State. Justin Fields. 2. player

Last week vs. (8) Penn State: 16-for-22 (72.7%)| 188 yards| 2 TD| 0 INT| 21 rushes| 68 yards| 0 TD

Season Stats: 175-for-252 (69.4%)| 2,352 yards| 33 TD| 1 INT| 105 rushes| 445 yards| 10 TD

There is a scenario where Ohio State legitimately could have three players invited to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony in JK Dobbins, Chase Young, and Justin Fields. Of the three, however, Fields clearly has the best chance of actually winning the award. While his yardage numbers won’t jump off the page, he has still been a very key part in the Buckeye’s undefeated season so far.

To think, Joe Burrow could be under-center in Columbus, Ohio right now too had he not transferred two years ago. It is safe to say that both Joe Burrow and the Buckeyes are in great positions to succeed regardless.

Fields makes up for his lack of yardage by having scored a ton of touchdowns. In fact, he is fourth in the country in total touchdowns this season with 43. He also takes excellent care of the ball as he has only thrown one (!) interception in his 252 pass attempts this year. His game against Penn State was a microcosm of his season in that he failed to crack 200 yards passing, but scored two key touchdowns on the day.

If Justin Fields hopes to close the gap and legitimately challenge for the Heisman Trophy he will need to have two superb showings the next two weeks. That starts this weekend when the Buckeyes will travel to Ann Arbor for the big rivalry game with 13th-ranked Michigan.

Fields will then get another chance to impress voters in the Big Ten Conference Championship game against the winner of the Minnesota-Wisconsin game this weekend. While he has a great chance at getting an invite to New York, does Fields actually have a chance at winning the Heisman Trophy?
