2020 Mock Draft: Franchise QB on the horizon for the Titans?
By Joseph Yun
There were some fears that the 2019 season was a lost cause due to the shaky start that the Titans got off to. No longer as they sit 6-5 and firmly in the playoff hunt. Ryan Tannehill’s play over the past several weeks has assuaged some concerns about the position after incumbent starter Marcus Mariota was benched.
The aforementioned Mariota is playing out his fifth-year option and surely won’t return to the team in 2020 after being benched for extremely poor play and a long medical history.
Tannehill, while playing in such a stellar manner is 32 years old this season and has a medical and inconsistent history himself so it’s unknown how much longer he can hold up. He’s played himself into a long term contract with the Titans so he can serve as a bridge to Jalen Hurts.
Hurts is an interesting prospect that has played himself into at least a second-round pick after a somewhat middling career at Alabama fundamentally speaking. At Oklahoma, he’s shown good development of progression that he showed flashes of while with the Crimson Tide. He’s a good athlete with a good enough arm to make the big league throws. The success of Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray really helps his case.
