2020 Mock Draft: Franchise QB on the horizon for the Titans?
By Joseph Yun
Mims has been a revelation this season after two solid years of production but he’s on pace to break out as a senior when it’s all said and done. He’s an elite athlete that should test well at the Combine. To get him this late in the sixth round is somewhat surprising.
The Titans need a burner to complement Corey Davis and surprising rookie A.J. Brown and Mims provides that in spades along with some decent physical traits. He doesn’t need to be the WR1 right away so the pressure of becoming one isn’t evident as Brown is slowly ascending into that role.
Mims can make any catch in the book look routine, which he has displayed repeatedly throughout the year, namely against TCU and Iowa State. He can grow and develop at a slower pace alongside Hurts before becoming a surefire bona fide starter down the road. He has accepted a Senior Bowl invitation so there’s another chance for him to shine in one on ones. Also, a pro-level strength and conditioning program is needed for him so a quasi redshirt year might be beneficial for him.
Here in the sixth round, the Titans give Hurts or whoever is the quarterback of the future a big-bodied receiver to throw to.
