Scouting Report

The last superlative goes to the player whose stock has benefitted the most from this season. No prospect has reaped what they’ve sown more than Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts. Jalen’s stock during the summer was one that assumed he would have to change positions to play in the NFL. He has silenced a lot of doubters this year and has started carving himself a nice in what is looking to be a strong class of quarterbacks. Hurts’ game isn’t for everyone but there are a lot of traits he has that can be built around.

He was known for his legs before the season started as an elite runner for the quarterback position. Hurts has solid foot speed despite not being known as a burner. His very good ball carrier vision allows him to use his good quickness to make cuts and find running lanes. The progress he has made as a passer is very promising for his stock.

He has shown the ability to consistently complete passes in the short to intermediate areas. The most impressive part of his game this far his how good he is at hitting the deep ball to his receivers without causing them to break stride. Hurts clearly has a strong arm and a lot of it has been showcased due to improved throwing mechanics and footwork.

There will be times where he tries make the perfect pass and will leave too much air on the ball when throwing to the intermediate area of the field but he does a good job taking care of the football. Hurts has benefited a lot from his performance this year and has solidified himself as a quarterback at the next level.

He will need to go to a team who is willing to build around his strengths and allow the offense to progress at the rate that he continues to progress as a passer. A man of high character, Hurts will blow teams away during the interview process of the draft. Jalen Hurts will make a team fall in love with him and possibly see them trade into the back half of the first round to select him come April.
